CNN’s Sanjay Gupta hosted a segment on Thursday explaining how drinking alcohol results in memory loss following accusations that Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh was extremely intoxicated when he allegedly attempted to sexually assault Christine Blasey Ford.

In Ford’s letter to Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), she also said that a former classmate of Kavanaugh’s, Mark Judge, witnessed the alleged assault.

Judge has since come out and said that he has “no memory of” the alleged incident.

“How impaired can someone’s memory be if they have been drinking?” CNN’s Brooke Baldwin asked Gupta.

“The answer sort of depends a little bit, obviously, person to person,” Gupta said.

Gupta then told Baldwin about a study that found that intoxicated people, when asked questions soon after a crime occurred, remember the same number of details about the crime as people who haven’t been drinking.

“So, there wasn’t a lot of memory impairment at least in the initial stages,” Gupta said.

Gupta then explained that over time, through, this changed, and the intoxicated people tended to forget details.

The segment lasted a little over four minutes, with Gupta spending the majority of the time explaining how drinking can and can’t impact a person’s memory.
