CNN: Warren ‘Faded Down the Stretch’ in Night 1 of Dem Debates

“What I did think was odd about Warren’s performance was she faded down the stretch,” one CNN commentator said.

CNN’s Nia-Malika Henderson minced no words when she criticized Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s performance during the first night of the DNC’s presidential primary debate in Miami.

Warren was the only candidate on the stage Wednesday night who routinely appears among the top three candidates in primary polls. But she didn’t demonstrate that kind of leadership on stage, according to Henderson.

“What I did think was odd about Warren’s performance was she faded down the stretch,” Henderson said. “It was like, ‘Is Warren still on the stage?’”

“She talks about fighting, right? I mean, she uses the word fighting, that she has the courage to go after Donald Trump, to go after big businesses, to go after pharmaceutical companies,” she said. “But in this debate, she didn’t fight much to get a word in edgewise.”

Warren has been steadily rising in the polls, but her selection to appear on the first night of the debate may have hurt her standing. Virtually all of the other top-tier candidates – Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, and Pete Buttigieg – are debating on the same stage Thursday night.

Warren’s options were to mix it up with lower-tiered candidates like NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio or Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, or try to appear above the fray while sharing a stage with these candidates.
