CNN’s Chris Cuomo Appears to Perpetuate Kamala Harris Birther Conspiracy

CNN’s Chris Cuomo appeared to perpetuate a so-called “birther” claim about California Democrat and 2020 presidential candidate, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), with a tweet on Monday.

The entire incident began when far-right Trump supporter Jacob Wohl tweeted that Harris is not eligible to be president because her parents were not born in the U.S. and did not establish legal residency before she was born. Of course, Wohl’s argument entirely misses the fact that a person born on U.S. soil, as Harris was in Oakland, California, is a U.S. citizen by birth.

CNN contributor Ana Navarro tweeted “Here we go again with the ‘birther’ crap.” She went on to imply that Wohl’s accusation is racist because both Harris and former President Barack Obama, who endured “birther” conspiracy theories, are black.

That’s when Cuomo chimed in. “And hopefully there will be no games where the issue keeps changing for righty accusers…and…the legit info abt Harris comes out to deal with the allegation ASAP,” he wrote. “The longer there is no proof either way, the deeper the effect.”

Cuomo deleted the tweet several hours later, but the replies to Cuomo were brutal.

Just prior to deletion, Cuomo was being ratio’d approximately 23 comments to 1 retweet.

UPDATE: After deleting his initial tweet, Cuomo put out a follow-up that tries to walk back his initial statement.
