CO Gov, A Possible 2020 Candidate, Compared to Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton may not be the person John Hickenlooper wants comparisons to, especially at this moment in history, ahead of a possible 2020 run.

Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) is eyeing a presidential run, and he just gained a comparison that was meant to be a compliment but may not be favorable to his chances in the long run.

The comparison happened on Thursday, when Zayo Group CEO Dan Caruso introduced Hickenlooper before a forum on “smart cities.”

“I had the pleasure of meeting President Clinton about once or twice in a crowd,” Caruso told attendees at a summit on Thursday, “and just saw how he worked a crowd, how he was able to very comfortably just move around, talk to people, get to know them, listen, talk, engage.”

“Governor Hickenlooper has that same trait, that same quality,” Caruso said.

Hickenlooper acknowledged the comparison, joking it’s the first time he’s been compared to Clinton.

Caruso responded by saying, “Hopefully I don’t compare him to you in a negative way,” eliciting laughs from Hickenlooper and the audience.

Bill Clinton was most recently in the news for saying that “the norms have really changed in terms of, what you can do to somebody against their will.” Clinton is experiencing increased scrutiny for his prior sexual misconduct, even from members of his own party, amid the #MeToo movement.
