Former FBI Director James Comey told the women of “The View” on Wednesday that President Obama stopped him from alerting the American public to Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Co-host Sunny Holstin asked why Comey disclosed the email investigation into Hillary Clinton but not the counterintelligence investigation into members of Trump’s campaign.

The former FBI director explained that not much information existed in the counterintelligence investigation, and the probe did not focus on candidate Trump.

But when Comey wanted to disclose the Russian effort to interfere in the 2016 campaign, he said, President Obama stopped him.

“I wrote a draft op-ed for a major newspaper, saying, ‘The Russians are coming for our election, and Americans need to know about it,’ and [the Obama administration] didn’t take me up on it,” he recounted. The former FBI director defended the decision, saying that it was an impossible position for the president.
