Condoleezza Rice: Not “The End of the World” If Trump Leaves Iran Deal

Condoleezza Rice, former secretary of state to President George W. Bush, told “CBS This Morning” on Tuesday that it’s not “the end of the world” if President Trump withdraws the U.S. from the Iran nuclear deal.

“I probably would have stayed in, for alliance management more than anything else,” Rice told CBS’ Norah O’Donnell. “But I don’t think that it’s the end of the world if the administration leaves the agreement.”

CBS posted a full video of Rice’s answer:

Rice noted she “wouldn’t have signed this agreement to begin with,” calling it “weak.”

“A verification regime that is weak is very problematic,” Rice said.

Earlier, the former secretary of state noted, “You have to worry about verification with the Iranians. And the verification measures in the 2015 agreement were not very strong.”

The Iran nuclear deal is back in the news, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Monday that Iran’s nuclear program endured the 2015 nuclear deal. The Iranian Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research (Iranian acronym SPND), headed by the former chief of Project Amad, continues nuclear weapons research, according to Netanyahu.
