Conservative Host Slams Corruption in Defense Bid Contracts

Korea Aerospace Industries and Lockheed Martin have partnered to offer a new training aircraft to the U.S. armed forces. But corruption scandals are dogging their efforts.

RedState columnist Seton Motley, in an appearance on Lars Larson’s radio show on Thursday, attacked the defense contractor partnership between Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) and Lockheed Martin, calling it “problematic.”

The columnist cited KAI’s fraudulent practices in trying to win defense contracts overseas, saying that the company faked data and is still trying to win a contract to develop a new training plane for the United States.

“Lockheed Martin’s partner is pretty corrupt,” Motley warned, pointing out that one KAI executive resigned and another committed suicide over being caught in a corruption scandal.

“You wonder if there’s any kind of scrutiny of the numbers [the government] get[s] in these [defense] proposals, bids, contracts,” he added. “I hope there are because obviously there are some shenanigans going on [from KAI].”

KAI is currently working with its American partner, Lockheed Martin, to develop a replacement training aircraft for the U.S. armed forces, proposing the T-50 as a suitable next generation trainer for U.S. pilots. KAI’s corruption and history of fudging data, however, brings into question their suitability to meet U.S. military needs.
