Cook Political Report Moves House Race Toward GOP

The Cook Political Report’s Dave Wasserman delivered good news to Republicans on Friday, changing the non-partisan organization’s forecast for Pennsylvania’s 1st Congressional District from ‘Toss-up’ to ‘Lean Republican.’

Incumbent Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) will face Democrat multimillionaire Scott Wallace in November, and Wasserman writes that the race appears to be trending Republican.

The report cited Wallace’s carpet-bagging tendencies as a liability for the Democrat heading into the race:

[H]e hasn’t lived there for decades, and until recently he was a registered lobbyist for non-profits who lived in Maryland. His Maryland homestead exemption claim and his ties to exclusive South African country clubs are ready-made for attack ads geared towards Bucks’s parochial, blue-collar electorate.

Reports also connected the Democrat to “the BDS (Boycott, Divest, Sanction) movement against Israel.”

Wallace’s issues, combined with Fitzpatrick’s enduring popularity in the district, are helping GOP chances in the congressional district.

The media may be expecting a blue wave, but Republicans are holding their own in at least one competitive district.
