In his first appearance on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) decided that he would not use the time to gain information from Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, instead lecturing the secretary in a minor temper tantrum.

Citing examples of white supremacist violence that has taken place in the U.S. since 9/11, Booker accused Nielsen of “complicity” in President Trump’s racism.

The senator demanded that Nielsen spend “73 percent of [her] time” focusing on white supremacist violence, using the examples he previously cited.

“When Dick Durbin called me, I had tears of rage when I heard about his experience in that meeting,” he added, referencing the president’s comments about third-world countries. “And for you not to feel that hurt and that pain and to dismiss some of the questions of my colleagues, saying, ‘I’ve already answered that line of questions,’ when tens of millions of Americans are hurting right now because they’re worried about what happened in the White House, that’s unacceptable to me.”

Booker continued to yell at the Homeland secretary until his time expired.
