Cuomo Tells Joke About Jews at New York Church

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, speaking at a Harlem Church on Sunday, used a negative stereotype in an effort to elicit laughs from the crowd, implying that Jews are unable to dance.

The New York Daily News reported that Cuomo joked that Catholics (like himself) did not have as much “rhythm” as the parishioners at the Mount Neboh Baptist Church in the historically black neighborhood.

“We [Catholics] are not as without rhythm as our Jewish brothers and sisters,” he said.

The governor pointed out a Jewish Democratic consultant, who was wearing a yarmulke, as an example:

Cuomo even singled out Democratic consultant Hank Sheinkopf, a former campaign adviser who is Jewish, who was sitting in the front row wearing a yarmulke.

“I was just watching Mr. Sheinkopf here in the front row, moving to the music,” Cuomo said. “It was ugly. It was ugly.”

The governor is facing a spirited primary from the left, in the campaign of former “Sex and the City” star Cynthia Nixon.
