Confronted with questions by NBC reporters about allegations of sexual misconduct against Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), two Democratic leaders in the House dodged questions on a possible resignation from the representative. Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA), the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, and Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC), the third-ranking Democrat in the House, attempted to avoid the questions and defend their colleague.

“Other men in other industries have faced similar accusations and gotten out of the way, resigned, stepped down far faster than he has,” a reporter pointed out.

“I don’t know. You would have to give me some examples,” Richmond responded.

The reporter responded by citing the examples of Harvey Weinstein, Charlie Rose, and Matt Lauer.

As they stepped into an elevator, Clyburn asked, “Who elected them?”

The representatives did not answer any more questions as the elevator doors closed.
