Democratic socialist and congressional candidate Rashida Tlaib, who is running unopposed in Michigan’s 13th Congressional District, called it “hypocritical” for fellow Democrats to accept corporate donations during an interview on “Pod Save America.”

One of the podcast hosts asked Tlaib what she thought about fellow Democrats accepting corporate donations, explicitly citing the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) decision to reverse a ban on contributions from fossil fuel companies.

“The irony is so many Democrats say they want to end Citizens United, but then they practice what the very essence of what Citizens United was about,” Tlaib said. “I think it’s hypocritical when we say we’re for the people, but then we’re taking money from the very people that leave our families in poverty.”

Tlaib said she was “disappointed” in Democrats’ decision to accept corporate cash, adding that she raised money “through grassroots fundraising.”
