The Democratic Party’s nominee to replace Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), State Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minneapolis), said during an interview on Sunday that Ellison should not drop out of the race for attorney general of Minnesota.

Omar is standing by Ellison, despite the startling allegations of domestic abuse against Ellison that emerged just days before Minnesota’s primary.

Ellison’s ex-girlfriend Karen Monahan accused Ellison of emotionally and physically abusing her during their relationship, allegations that Ellison denies.

CBS Minnesota’s Esme Murphy asked Omar on “News Sunday Morning” whether she agrees with groups like the National Organization for Women (NOW), who are demanding Ellison drop out of his race.

“I feel like Keith has been addressing it and I hope he takes more time to address this concern. I’ve seen the comments that his children are making, his ex-wife. And I think it is really important for us at this moment not to continue to politicize this issue,” Omar said.

Murphy then pressed Omar on whether she believes that Ellison should continue to run for attorney general of Minnesota.

“I do think he should continue to run,” Omar said.
