Dem Rep to Introduce Articles of Impeachment on First Day of New Congress

Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) intends to introduce articles of impeachment against President Trump on Thursday as the new session of Congress begins, according to reporting by the Los Angeles Times.

Sherman’s bill is actually one he first introduced in 2017, Trump’s first year in office. He plans to reintroduce it on Thursday.

However, this time around the decision of whether to act on these articles of impeachment will rest with the House Democrats, who took back control of the House after the 2018 midterm elections, rather than Republicans.

“There is no reason it shouldn’t be before the Congress,” Sherman told the Times. “Every day, Donald Trump shows that leaving the White House would be good for our country.”

Likley incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wouldn’t rule out impeaching Trump during an interview with NBC’s Savannah Guthrie, which aired earlier in the day on Thursday.

While it’s clear that House Democrats are eager to start impeachment proceedings, the majority of Americans think impeaching Trump should not be a top priority for the new Congress according to a recent Politico/Harvard poll.
