Dem Rep: Trump’s “Hush Money” Payments an Impeachable Offense

"Well, I think that it's an impeachable offense in that he had directed the payments."

Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) said Tuesday on MSNBC that President Trump’s alleged hush-money payments – made to various women by his personal attorney during the 2016 presidential campaign – is an impeachable offense.

Trump’s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, allegedly made payments to Playboy model Karen McDougal and adult film star Stormy Daniels in exchange for their silence on alleged affairs with Trump.

MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki asked Speier if she agrees with Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), who said recently that if it’s proven Trump knew about these payments then it would be an impeachable offense.

“Well, I think that it’s an impeachable offense, in that he had directed the payments, it was intended to violate the federal laws as it relates to campaign contributions, and it was done intentionally so that the women would not speak up and throw the election to Hillary Clinton,” Speier said. “So it was a rigged campaign all right. It was rigged by Donald Trump.”

Speier concluded by saying that if it is proven this was done in coordination with the Russians then it would be a “very explosive situation.”
