Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-IL) would not condemn her colleague, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), for her recent string of anti-Semitic statements when asked about them by a constituent at a town hall on Sunday.

Since being sworn into Congress, Omar has tweeted anti-Semitic stereotypes that Jewish money fuels U.S. backing for Israel. She’s also accused Jewish Americans have a ‘dual loyalty‘ to the U.S. and Israel.

“It’s no secret that Congresswoman Omar has a serious problem with Jewish Americans,” the constituent begins, “so why haven’t you publicly condemned her for being a known anti-Semite and called for her removal of the House Foreign Affairs Committee?”

“Thank you for your question. So, Congresswoman Omar, I’ve heard her make apologies for her offensive statements, and um, I take her at her word with those apologies,” Underwood.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) bashed Underwood for not forcefully condemning Omar’s anti-Semitic rhetoric.

“It is categorically horrifying that Lauren Underwood looked a Jewish Illinoisan in the eye and defended an anti-Semite,” NRCC Spokeswoman Carly Atchison said in a statement.
