Dem Sen Criticizes AOC’s Green New Deal

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) unveiled their Green New Deal proposal on Thursday, and one Democratic senator is already publicly criticizing the proposal’s practicality.

The Green New Deal proposes getting rid of all air travel within the next 10 years and building a “high speed rail at a scale” to replace air travel.

Sen Mazie Hirono (D-HI) didn’t seem thrilled about this particular proposal, telling reporters, “That would be pretty hard for Hawaii.”

Hawaii is almost 2,500 miles away from Los Angeles, CA, which is about a four-and-a-half-hour flight.

To put that in perspective, the longest railroad trip offered by Amtrak, which is not high speed rail, is 2,265 miles from Chicago to Los Angles and takes on average 43 hours to complete.
