Dem Senate Candidate Says U.S. Shouldn’t Have Declared Independence from Great Britain

If you’ve tuned into most of the cable news shows, chances are that you’ve seen former Bush administration ethics official Richard Painter railing against President Trump’s time in office, and the anti-Trump commentator is now pursuing a Senate candidacy as a Democrat in Minnesota.

He may want to lay off his Twitter pronouncements if he’s looking for a successful campaign. Painter implied in a Tweet on Wednesday that the United States never should have declared independence from the British Empire in 1776.

The candidate lamented that the United Kingdom has such, as he sees it, desirable institutions such as universal health care, while the United States is “stuck with a president guilty of treason.”

Being anti-American Revolution hasn’t been a winning political message in the United States since the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown.

It’s a strong bet it won’t work out for Painter either.
