Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) expressed great displeasure with former President Barack Obama’s administration for not being “more on their game” in preventing Russian meddling in the 2016 election during a press conference on Tuesday.

“I think one of the consensuses that we all came up with was [that] we were all disappointed that states, the federal government, and the Department of Homeland Security was not more on their game in advance of the 2016 elections,” Warner said.

Warner then discussed how 21 states were affected by Russian hacking ahead of the 2016 elections.

“One of the most frustrating things [was], in the aftermath of this information coming out, that it actually took the Department of Homeland Security nearly nine months to notify the top election officials that their states’ systems had been messed with,” he said.
