"I was generally aware there were reporters working on a potential story coming out of Brett Kavanaugh's freshman year actions at Yale college."
Sens. Chris Coons (D-DE) and Richard Blumenthal (D-MD) admitted they both knew about the accusation of an incident occurring while Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh was a freshman at Yale before the New Yorker article was published on Sunday, but both denied knowing details during a press conference on Monday.
A reporter asked Coons and Blumenthal if they were aware of the allegations that Deborah Ramirez made against Judge Kavanaugh in a New Yorker article before it was published on Sunday.
“I was generally aware there were reporters working on a potential story coming out of Brett Kavanaugh’s freshman year actions at Yale college,” Coons said.
Coons then told the reporter that he did not know the details, specifically the name of the accuser, until it was reported by The New Yorker.
“Like Sen. Coons, I had no knowledge about the details of who it was or what the specific allegation was,” Blumenthal added.
Another reporter asked who else on the Senate Judiciary Committee knew about these allegations.
“I don’t know,” Blumenthal responded.
Blumenthal then told reporters that he wasn’t aware of any members of the Senate Judiciary Committee investigating Ramirez’s accusations.
