Democrat Congressional Candidate Still Opposes the GOP Tax Bill

"My mind has not changed. I think we should have followed those who said 'we should have limited it to a working- and middle-class tax cut."

Conor Lamb, the 33-year-old Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional District, doubled down on his opposition to the GOP tax bill despite the millions of Americans who have benefited from it during a debate on Monday night.

The moderator, KDKA’s Ken Rice, asked Lamb if he had changed his mind about the GOP tax bill, which Lamb opposed before it became law. The moderator cited the more than 300 companies that have announced they would give employees bonuses, pay raises, or increased benefits because of the GOP tax bill.

“Ken, I’m very happy that our working- and middle-class people are receiving more money in their paychecks. I’ve always been for middle-class tax cuts,” Lamb explained. “What I’m not happy about is that I think people’s health insurance premiums are now going to go up, and we’ve added a trillion and a half dollars to our national debt. We didn’t need to add a penny to our debt to have the tax cut for out working and middle-class people.”

Lamb then called the GOP tax bill a “giveaway” to the top 1 percent in America.

“So, to answer your question, my mind has not changed. I think we should have followed those who said ‘we should have limited it to a working- and middle-class tax cut, without adding a penny to the debt,'” Lamb concluded.
