Democrat: Nobody in My State Cares What Elizabeth Warren Thinks

Despite her pretty clear desire to run for the White House in 2020, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is making more enemies than allies these days on Capitol Hill.

Warren is stridently opposed to a rollback of certain banking rules created 10 years ago, when Congress passed a regulatory bill known as Dodd-Frank.

But while Warren portrays herself as defender of the little guy, one senator from a little-guy state is saying the Massachusetts senator doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) blasted Warren in an interview with The Atlantic, over what she described as Warren’s misleading argument against the rollback. Heitkamp’s North Dakota is home to many small banks that could benefit from eased regulations. And despite the support of 17 Senate Democrats, Warren continues to characterize the bill as “outrageous” and designed to pad “executive bonuses.”

Heitkamp says Warren is full of it. “She doesn’t live where I live,” Heitkamp told The Atlantic.

“I think it’s really unfortunate that she has misled people regarding this bill,” she continued. “Some of the things that she has said are incorrect, and I cannot let the legislative history of this legislation be what Elizabeth Warren says it is.”

When asked if Heitkamp was using Warren as a foil for her reelection bid in an attempt to distance herself from Washington, D.C. Democrats, Heitkamp had a simple response.

“I think people in North Dakota don’t care what Elizabeth Warren thinks,” she said.

Ouch. For a Democrat who will need to bring together the disparate parts of the Democratic Party if she is to become its presidential nominee in 2020, it seems Warren has got her work cut out for her.
