Dems Go to War Over $15 Trillion, Job-Killing ‘100% Renewable Energy’ Plan

Establishment Democrats and far-left liberals like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) are going to war over climate change, in particular a controversial and expensive plan, backed by Sanders and some celebrities, for 100-percent renewable energy in the United States.

Axios reported:

One vocal faction is pushing for 100% renewable energy, neglecting nuclear power and fighting all fossil fuels, infrastructure to move them and technologies burning them more cleanly.

…For [other] people and groups, the urgent threat of climate change necessitates pragmatism and possibly compromise with conservatives supporting climate action.

NTK Network has covered this plan, from Stanford professor Mark Z. Jacobson, before. We noted that the estimated cost for just the first 10 years of the plan ran in the trillions of dollars. We also estimated that the plan would cost $1 trillion to implement in California alone.

That’s not stopping some in the Democratic Party, according to Axios.

Political momentum is growing for a renewables-only agenda, fueled by plummeting prices for wind and solar. The number of corporations committing to 100% renewable energy has nearly tripled to 100 since 2015. Democratic political candidates are touting the line, and the bipartisan Conference of Mayors endorsed the concept last year.

“100% renewable energy is a better slogan, but that’s not all it is,” said Karthik Ganapathy, a former 350.org staffer who worked for Sanders and now works for Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota. “We need to massively transition off fossil fuels, and dramatically scale up renewable energy. That’s the main project. the rest is details that we can figure out on the margins.”
