Dems Won’t Tell You This: Dow 25K, Stock Market Gains Benefit Tens of Millions of Americans

Wall Street is an oft-cited enemy of the Democratic Party, but stock market gains in 2017 and 2018 benefit tens of millions of Americans invested in stocks.

Dems Won’t Tell You This: Dow 25K, Stock Market Gains Benefit Tens of Millions of Americans

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) hit 25,000 points for the first time in history this week, news that President Trump celebrated on Twitter.

Wall Street, which hosts the DJIA, the S&P 500, and other stock market indices, is a frequent boogeyman for Democrats, whether they’re eying a run at the White House or fighting Republicans in Congress.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), of course, built her career on fighting “Wall Street.”

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), a possible 2020 presidential candidate, also cites “Wall Street” as a key fight for her.

And democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) cannot be left out.

One thing these Democrats won’t tell you, though, is that tens of millions of Americans benefit from stock market gains.

How can that be? Well, it’s because tens of millions of Americans are invested in the stock market.

In April 2017, Gallup asked Americans: “Do you, personally, or jointly with a spouse, have any money invested in the stock market right now — either in an individual stock, a stock mutual fund, or in a self-directed 401(k) or IRA?”

Well over half (54 percent) of Americans said yes, a consistent figure in Gallup’s annual polling on the question.

Do the math here, and 54 percent of American adults equals tens of millions of Americans. That doesn’t include the children who benefit from more money in their parents’ pockets, nor does it include the seniors in retirement who already may have benefited from investing in the stock market.

Next time Democrats bash Wall Street or ignore stock market gains, remember that tens of millions of Americans are seeing the benefits in 2017 and beyond.
