Dershowitz: Mueller Has No Case Against Trump for Obstruction of Justice

"I think [Mueller] knows he's going to end up only with a report to Congress. There is no obstruction of justice case," Dershowitz said.

Harvard Law School professor Alan Dershowitz said that he believes Special Counsel Robert Mueller wants to interview President Trump because, lacking an obstruction of justice case, Mueller wants Trump to perjure himself.

MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki asked Dershowitz about Trump meeting with Mueller and how much of Mueller’s case hinges on this testimony.

“Prosecutors don’t call witnesses like Trump unless they want to put them in a perjury trap. They want him to answer falsely,” Dershowitz said. “That gives them a new ground for either impeachment or charging the president.”

Kornacki followed up by asking Dershowitz if he thinks Mueller has decided where he wants to go with this case.

“I don’t think so. I think he knows he’s going to end up only with a report to Congress. There is no obstruction of justice case,” Dershowitz said.

Dershowitz added that if Democrats decided to impeach Trump after Mueller’s report to Congress, it would be a stupid decision.
