Former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick called Medicare for All a “terrific idea,” during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.

CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Patrick whether he supported the single-payer health care law backed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and other Democratic leaders.

“I think it’s a terrific idea as a sort of shorthand on the basic question on how we get universal care to everybody, and there’s more than one way to skin that cat,” Patrick said. “I think having Medicare for All alongside various other private options that are available under the ACA is a terrific idea.”

A recent study by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University found that Medicare for All would cost American taxpayers $32.6 trillion over 10 years.
