Disaster Candidate Cancels National TV Appearance at Last Minute

Kentucky Democrat Amy McGrath had perhaps the worst first-week roll-out of any statewide candidate in recent memory. Then she rode that momentum into the weekend.

Failed 2018 congressional candidate Amy McGrath’s troubles are well known by now. Last week, she announced she would challenge Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The next day, she sat down with the Louisville Courier Journal and told them she would have supported Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court. That position surprised some pundits because it was a reversal from her 2018 position. McGrath lost a 2018 congressional bid against Rep. Andy Barr during a year when many Democrats unseated Republicans.

But a few hours after that interview was published, McGrath issued a tweet in which she reversed her position on Kavanaugh again. Now she says she would have opposed the judge’s nomination, and she apologized to her liberal supporters who were outraged by her previous position.

Determined to stay out of the headlines for the remained of the week, McGrath laid low. That is, until she was scheduled to appear on Kasie Hunt’s MSNBC show, “Kasie DC.”

Hunt introduced a segment that was supposed to feature McGrath only to explain that the Kentucky Democrat had backed out of her scheduled appearance at the last minute.

“I was planning on asking McGrath about that race and her fight against Mitch McConnell tonight, but she cancelled her appearance on our show at the last minute,” Hunt said. “That invitation does remain open and of course Mr. leader, we would welcome you, Senator McConnell, anytime as well.”
