Democratic National Committee (DNC) Vice Chair Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) refused to say whether Democrats supported keeping the middle-class tax cuts that Americans have enjoyed as a result of the Republican tax law during an interview on Sunday

MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki asked Ellison whether the Democratic message to middle-class Americans would be that the tax cuts instituted by Republicans last year would be repealed if Democrats retake the Congress in 2018.

“I think the message for the richest folks who got the tax cut and the big companies needs to be: repeal them. I mean, I have no idea why the corporate tax rate needs to drop from 35 percent to 20, why we need to essentially cut the estate tax, which only the richest people benefit from,” Ellison said.

Kornacki, not satisfied with Ellison’s attempted dodge, followed up by asking the DNC vice chair if Democrats would repeal the middle-class tax cuts.

Ellison again attempted to dodge the question, and for a third time, Kornacki attempted to get Ellison to answer his question.

“Well, look, you know how the legislative process works. We’re going — we’re going to go back there, and we’re going to look at what kind of tax situation we’re going to have that it’s fair to everybody,” Ellison said, yet again dodging Kornacki’s question.
