Democratic National Committee (DNC) Vice Chair Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) dodged when asked whether he would want Hillary Clinton campaigning for Democrats in 2018, following controversial comments Clinton made during a recent trip to India regarding Trump supporters.

During a discussion at the India Today Conclave, Clinton suggested that women who voted for Trump did so out of some sort of “pressure to vote the way that your husband, your boss, your son, whoever, believes you should.”

Clinton also said that Trump supporters didn’t like African Americans “getting rights” or women “getting jobs.”

MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki asked Ellison whether Clinton’s comments will hurt Democrats running in 2018.

“Hey, look, we’re going to be focusing on working-class, kitchen table issues,” Ellison said attempting to dodge the question. “You know, more than talking bad about anybody, we’re talking in favor of the American people.”

Kornacki then pressed Ellison on whether he thinks Clinton should be campaigning for Democrats in 2018.

“You know, let me tell you, I don’t think one comment one person makes is the issue. I think people want to know, what are you doing for us?” Ellison said.

Ellison never directly answered whether he would want Clinton campaigning for Democrats in 2018.
