DNC Vice Chair Keith Ellison Continues to Ignore Ties to Anti-Semitism

Democratic National Committee (DNC) Vice Chair Keith Ellison (D-MN) tweeted his disgust at recent reports that anti-Semitic incidents in America have surged 57 percent in 2017 on Tuesday.

The ironic part of Ellison’s tweet is that the graphic he used was created by a group that just last year said Ellison’s past statement’s regarding Israel were “deeply disturbing,” and disqualified Ellison from being head of the DNC.

Ellison tweeted a graphic by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on Tuesday, which showed the increase of anti-Semitic attacks in America.

The New York Times reported on the increase in of anti-Semitic attacks:

“The number of reported anti-Semitic incidents surged 57 percent in 2017, according to an annual report by the Anti-Defamation League. The organization’s Audit of Anti-Semitic Incidents, released Tuesday, found 1,986 such incidents in 2017, compared with 1,267 in 2016. That increase was the largest in a single year since the A.D.L. began tracking in 1

During Ellison’s 2017 bid to become DNC Chair, the ADL said that comments Ellison made regarding Israel in 2010 were “deeply disturbing and disqualifying.

In 2010, Ellison said:

“The United States foreign policy in the Middle East is governed by what is good or bad through a country of 7 million people. A region of 350 million all turns on a country of 7 million. Does that make sense? Is that logic? Right? When the Americans who trace their roots back to those 350 million get involved, everything changes.”

When pressed about these comments during an interview with Politico in 2017, Ellison stood by his 2010 statement.

This isn’t the only example of the ADL having an issue with Ellison.

The ADL has also taken issue with Ellison’s deep connection to anti-Semitic organizations. In the 1980s and 1990s, Ellison defended Nation of Islam head Louis Farrakhan, as well as speakers who accused Jews of collaborating with Nazis.

Ellison called Farrakhan a “role model for black youth,” despite Farrakhan propagating theories of they global Jewish conspiracy, according to the ADL:

“Farrakhan has alleged that the Jewish people were responsible for the slave trade and that they conspire to control the government, the media, Hollywood, and various Black individuals and organizations.”
