Democratic National Committee (DNC) vice chair, and candidate for attorney general of Minnesota, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) admitted during a community forum on Monday that it’s possible Democrats could impeach President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee if they retake the House.

A participant asked the panel if Democrats would impeach Trump’s Supreme Court nominee if they retake the House this fall.

It should be noted that this event happened before Trump formally announced his nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to serve on the Supreme Court.

“You’d have to find some evidence of corruption or something like that,” Ellison said.

Another participant said that it would be very “inappropriate” for Congress to impeach a Supreme Court Justice without just cause.

“I will say that there have been lower court judges that have been impeached. And honestly, there were some things that came up with Justice Thomas that were very concerning to me in terms of his impartiality. So I agree with Jill, it’s probably not going to happen, but it could theoretically happen,” Ellison said.

A month after Trump was inaugurated Ellison was already suggesting the possibility of impeachment, so it’s not surprising that he would consider impeaching a Supreme Court justice before they are even nominated.
