Does This Poll Mean Big Trouble to the 2020 Hopes of Warren and Gillibrand?

Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), two of the Democratic Party’s most visible figures and both possible presidential candidates in 2020, would lose the Democratic primary to someone who has never run for office before, according to a new poll released by Politico on Wednesday.

Oprah Winfrey, who some may call the first ‘boom’ candidate of the 2020 cycle, attracting nationwide attention for a powerful Golden Globes speech and talk of a potential presidential run, would beat both Warren and Gillibrand head to head, according to Politico.

Winfrey would lead Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) in a head-to-head primary matchup, 39 percent to 35 percent. And she has a big lead over Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), 44 percent to 23 percent.

But Winfrey trails both [former Vice President Joe] Biden, 54 percent to 31 percent, and [Sen. Bernie] Sanders [I-VT], 46 percent to 37 percent — two of Democrats’ best-known possible candidates.

Both Gillibrand and Warren have spent their political careers meticulously positioning themselves for the opportunity to run for president. This is a bad sign for both senators, before their campaigns are even off the ground.
