The Dow Jones Industrial Average crossed the 26,000-mark for the first time in history on Tuesday and is up about 42 percent since President Trump was elected in 2016.

Strong earnings from UnitedHealth and Citigroup, both outperforming estimates, resulted in the blue-chip index gaining 206 points to push it over 26,000 shortly after the opening bell.

CNBC reported:

“UnitedHealth posted better-than-expected earnings and sales, sending the stock up 1.4 percent in the premarket. Citigroup reported adjusted earnings that surpassed estimates, while revenue came in line with expectations. Citigroup shares climbed nearly 3 percent.”

Since Trump was elected in November 2016, the Dow is up, “almost 8,000 points, or about 42%.

The Wall Street Journal reported:

“The rally began in late 2016 as a bet on infrastructure spending, deregulation and tax cuts, but spent 2017 rising on the back of strong corporate earnings growth.”

If the Dow closes above 26,000 on Tuesday, it would be the fastest 1,000 point leap in the 120-year history of the blue-chip index.
