Election Day Poll: Most Americans Approve of Trump’s Handling of the Economy

The 2018 midterms will be President Trump’s first test of his support since being sworn in on Jan. 20, 2017. But a new poll released by Axios shows he’s already passed at least one test: most Americans believe the president has done a good job handling the U.S. economy in his first two years.

According to the Axios/SurveyMonkey poll, 53 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the economy. When broken down by group, that includes 95-percent support among Republicans, 17 percent among Democrats, and 50 percent among independents.

Trump also scores above the 50-percent approval mark among white, suburban women, and rural voters, as well as “Never Hillary” independent voters.

This poll also puts Trump’s overall approval rating at 46 percent.

Interestingly, Republicans do not get the same amount of credit for the economy as Trump. Overall, the country is split, 47-47, over which party would do a better job handling the economy and jobs.

Like Trump, Republicans score majorities of support among rural voters and the “Never Hillary” independents, and they earn a plurality of support among white, suburban women.
