Senators are “trying to help out some of our country’s biggest banks by weakening financial rules.” They “have worked out a deal behind closed doors to deregulate big banks.” “It’s insane.”

These are all things Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has said in the last two days, about an effort to provide small banks and community banks regulatory relief from more onerous parts of the Dodd-Frank bill.

Only, this time, Warren is not just attacking Republicans. She’s going after her own party.

The Massachsuetts senator and possible 2020 presidential candidate has targeted Democrats at least three times in the last two days with tweets:

The bill passed the Senate Banking Committee on Monday, and would raise the threshold at which banks are labeled as ‘too big to fail’ to $250 billion from $50 billion in assets.”

Vulnerable 2018 Democrats like Sens. Jon Tester (D-MT), Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), and Joe Donnelly (D-IN) worked with Republicans on the bill, but Warren seems intent on making them pay for supporting a bill she doesn’t like.

It’s an interesting strategy if she wants to build a coalition of support for a presidential run in 2020.
