Elizabeth Warren: It’s Indigenous Peoples Day, Not Columbus Day

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) tweeted her support for Indigenous Peoples Day, a replacement for Columbus Day, on Monday. The move could prove problematic for Warren given her previous ancestry claims.

“Today we celebrate Native American communities, & the pride & resilience of people reclaiming their history & traditions. We honor the contributions that Native people make to a country that has taken so much & keeps asking for more. #IndigenousPeoplesDay,” Warren tweeted.

Warren then asked people to donate to the campaigns of Deb Haaland and Sharice Davids, who are both Native American Democrat candidates running for Congress.

For those unfamiliar, Indigenous Peoples Day is what dozens of American cities have started calling Columbus Day out of protest for Christopher Columbus’ treatment of indigenous peoples in the Americas.

Warren herself claimed to have Native American ancestry, but has been unable to provide sufficient proof.

President Trump nicknamed Warren, ‘Pocahontas,’ and suggested that the Massachusetts senator take a DNA test to prove her ancestry.

Warren has called Trump’s attacks racist and has refused to take a DNA test to prove her ancestry.
