Empty Chair Reflects Google’s Absence at Senate Hearing

Alphabet CEO and Google co-founder Larry Page and Google CEO Sundar Pichai were invited to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee Wednesday. They declined.

The Senate Intelligence Committee invited some of the biggest names in the digital space to testify about Russian interference in U.S. elections on Wednesday, but there was one notable absence: a representative from Google.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg both appeared before the committee, but there was a chair left vacant for an executive from Google.

Alphabet CEO and Google co-founder Larry Page and Google CEO Sundar Pichai were invited to testify before the committee after backlash from conservatives over search results from Google News.

Both Page and Pichai rejected the offer and elected not to attend Wednesday’s hearing.
