ESPN’s Jemele Hill Thinks Respecting the National Anthem Is a ‘Dog Whistle’

ESPN’s Jemele Hill blasted the University of Mississippi’s new men’s basketball coach Kermit Davis for what she interpreted as a “dog whistle.” Kermit had made remarks during his introductory press conference on Tuesday in which he said his team would respect the national anthem.

“We’re going to be a respectful team that respects the flag and the national anthem. All those things from culture is what we’re about. It’s who we’re going to be,” Davis said.

It should be noted that Davis’ comments were not, “prompted by a question from the media.”

Hill tweeted in response to Davis comments:

In September, President Trump called on NFL owners to fire any NFL player who kneeled during the national anthem and suggested that people boycott NFL games if players kneel during the national anthem.

The American people overwhelmingly agreed with Trump that NFL players should stand during the national anthem, according to polling.

This resulted in some NFL sponsors pulling their advertisements, lower ratings, and poor attendance at NFL games.

Hill in the past has accused people who defended the national anthem as engaging in “racial pornography.”
