Emails to Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, obtained exclusively by NTK Network, reveal the depth of the divide in America over the NFL’s national anthem controversy.
Kenney spoke up in support of the Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles after a celebration at the White House fell through earlier this year. The mayor appeared on major television networks to attack President Trump.
The White House blamed the Eagles for canceling, while the Eagles pointed the finger at the Trump administration.
Here are some excerpts from the emails.
“As a life long Eagles fan, I agree that the Eagles reception at the White House definitely should have been cancelled [sic]. Some of these low life, scum bag, cry baby, spoiled brats, who refuse to stand do not deserve an invitation,” one fan wrote, promising to vote against Kenney in the next election.
“Your disrespectful comments about the President is a direct reflection of your bias and ego yourself,” another wrote. He promised to volunteer for Kenney’s next electoral opponent.
“People have had enough of your ultra leftist, America hating movement, which you and the NFL seem to support,” yet another fan emailed, slamming Kenney as an “embarrassment” to his city.
But an equal number of emails were supportive, lauding Kenney for standing up to Trump.
“I am a lifelong [Philadelphia Eagles] fan and have never been prouder than when I read your statement today about President Trump[‘s] antics,” one woman told Kenney.
Another Pennsylvania-born emailer wrote that Kenney’s comments give “hope to those of us who despair about what is happening in this country with Trump.”
