Ronan Farrow, a journalist for The New Yorker and author of “The War on Peace,” told ABC’s George Stephanopolous on Wednesday that Hillary Clinton tried to cancel an interview with him over his reporting on Harvey Weinstein.

Farrow’s new book, which documents the gutting of American soft power, scheduled an interview with Clinton about failing U.S. diplomacy. But Clinton did not want to speak with him after hearing of his imminent reports that exposed the disturbing behavior of Weinstein, a longtime Clinton ally.

The author praised former Secretaries of State Rex Tillerson and Colin Powell for speaking candidly with him.

“Hillary Clinton had scheduled an interview while I was at the height of the Weinstein reporting, and her folks got in touch and said, ‘We hear you’re working on a big story,'” he said. “[They] sounded very concerned and tried to cancel that interview.”

“Over the Weinstein stuff?” the ABC host asked.

“Over the Weinstein stuff,” Farrow confirmed.

“I’m surprised by that,” Stephanopolous, a former Clinton operative, said, before quickly changing the subject.

According to the Barnes & Noble description of the book, Clinton did eventually interview with Farrow.
