The New Yorker’s Ronan Farrow told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos that Deborah Ramirez, the latest woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct, came forward because Senate Democrats “came looking for this claim,” during an interview on “Good Morning America” on Monday.

Farrow and fellow reporter Jane Mayer co-authored an article in The New Yorker on Sunday that alleged Kavanaugh exposed himself to Ramirez while at a party in college.

Stephanopoulos asked Farrow why Ramirez decided to come forward.

“She came forward because Senate Democrats came looking for this claim. She did not flag this. This came to the attention of people on the Hill independently, and it has cornered her into an awkward position,” Farrow said. “She said, point-blank, ‘I don’t want to ruin anyone’s life,’ but she feels this is a serious claim. She considers her own memories credible, and she felt it was important to tell her own story before others did for her.”
