Five U.S. Senate Polls From Fox News Bring Good News to the GOP

Fox News offered a significant update on the battle for U.S. Senate control on Wednesday with five new polls in some of the key toss-up races around the country.

Fox News’ Peter Doocy tweeted the topline results of all five polls on Wednesday evening:

The set of polls is particularly bad news for Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND). For an incumbent to be down 12 points with a month to go is a bad sign for her chances and, more importantly, could convince Democrats to pull spending from efforts to win her six more years.

The polls are also bad news for ex-Gov. Phil Bredesen (D-TN), whose surprising lead on Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) in the race to replace Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) has evaporated in recent polls. With spending in the race favoring Blackburn, it appears she is turning the tide in the Republican effort to keep the seat.

The three other races are too close to call, as they have been for months now. But Mike Braun’s standing in Indiana, where he’s presenting a stiff challenge to Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-IN), might quell talk in D.C. that Donnelly was trending in the right direction over the last several weeks.

A potential X-factor in three of these races? Judge Brett Kavanaugh. On Friday and Saturday, Heitkamp, Donnelly, and Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) will face key votes on the judge’s elevation to the Supreme Court. Polling in Missouri already indicates McCaskill’s opposition to Kavanaugh is greatly hurting her standing with voters.
