FLASHBACK: Bill Nelson Fundraised Off of Hurricane Irma

Sen. Bill Nelson’s (D-FL) re-election campaign released an ad attacking the response of the administration of his opponent, Gov. Rick Scott’s (R-FL), to last year’s Hurricane Irma.

But what Nelson doesn’t mention is that shortly after the Category 4 hurricane hit the Sunshine State, his re-election campaign sent out a fundraising email that used the natural disaster as a hook.

NTK Network reported in September of 2017:

“It hasn’t even been a month since Hurricane Irma made landfall in Florida, leaving much of the state devastated, but for Sen. Bill Nelson that was more than enough time to start fundraising off the disaster.”

“The Washington Examiner’s Philip Wegmann tweeted an email that Nelson sent to supporters on Thursday.”

Nelson’s attack ad against Scott’s administration comes after a string of recent polls show Scott holding a narrow lead over Nelson in the 2018 Florida Senate race.
