FLASHBACK: Google’s Schmidt Wore a ‘Staff’ Badge at Clinton’s Election Party

The search engine Google caught the ire of President Trump on Tuesday. Trump claims the search engine is rigging its algorithm to favor what he calls “fake news” media outlets, like CNN.

“Google search results for ‘Trump News’ shows only the viewing/reporting of Fake New Media. In other words, they have it RIGGED, for me & others, so that almost all stories & news is BAD,” Trump tweeted. “Fake CNN is prominent. Republican/Conservative & Fair Media is shut out. Illegal?”

While Trump’s claims have not been proven, the company’s leader has shown a past friendliness with a key political rival of Trump.

On election night, Eric Schmidt, the executive chairman of Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc., was photographed wearing a staff badge at Hillary Clinton’s election night party.

But that’s not surprising given that Schmidt funded an entire company dedicated to running Clinton’s data operation.

According to Quartz report from 2015:

“An under-the-radar startup funded by billionaire Eric Schmidt has become a major technology vendor for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, underscoring the bonds between Silicon Valley and Democratic politics.”

“The Groundwork, according to Democratic campaign operatives and technologists, is part of efforts by Schmidt—the executive chairman of Google parent-company Alphabet—to ensure that Clinton has the engineering talent needed to win the election.”

While Google claims “its goal is to make sure users of its search engine get the most relevant answers to their queries quickly,” it would appear Schmidt’s past history favors Democrats.
