"You'd go to the major media markets. You would not go to Iowa. You wouldn't go to Montana. You wouldn't go to New Hampshire..."

Former President Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign manager Jim Messina said that Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) proposal to eliminate the electoral college “is not going to happen” during a panel discussion on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” on Tuesday.

During a CNN Town Hall in Jackson, Mississippi on Monday night, Warren called for the electoral college to be eliminated and for America to adopt a national voting system.

The Bulwark’s Charlie Skyes blasted Warren’s proposal, calling it “not serious,” adding it “will never happen.”

MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt asked Messina to respond to what Skyes said about Warren’s proposal to eliminate the electoral college.

“Let me just answer the electoral college question. I also think just from a campaign manager standpoint from when I ran President Obama’s campaign, we would never go to a small state if there was no electoral college,” Messina said. “You’d go to the major media markets, you would not go to Iowa, you wouldn’t go to Montana, you wouldn’t go to New Hampshire.”

Messina added that he understood the concern about having the electoral college decide the presidency.

“But, I agree with Charlie, that’s not going to happen,” Messina concluded.
