Following President Trump’s nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court on Monday evening, two of the nominee’s former clerks took to the airwaves to vouch for the potential Supreme Court justice’s character and credentials.

Luke McCloud joined CNN’s Chris Cuomo almost immediately following Trump’s announcement to tout the judge’s record.

“I think that the president has made an excellent choice with Judge Kavanaugh,” McCloud said.

“He is extremely well-qualified,” the former clerk explained. “He is just a great guy. He’s a great judge, but he’s an excellent person.”

Then, on Tuesday morning, Jennifer Mascott, an Assistant Professor of Law at George Mason University and former Kavanaugh clerk, told CNN that she backed his nomination.

“He may be the most qualified Supreme Court nominee in generations,” she said.

Kavanaugh “is an independent, fair-minded judge,” the law professor added. “He’s got one of the sharpest legal minds in the country.”

Mascott praised Kavanaugh’s character and support for young lawyers, saying she still seeks advice from the nominee.
