Former President George W. Bush spoke with Fox Business’ Maria Bartiromo on Wednesday about his final visit with his mother, former First Lady Barbara Bush, who passed away at the age of 92 on Tuesday.

George W. Bush said that his mother was “needling” him and joking with the doctor during that visit, which took place last week.

“We had a wonderful visit. She was strong, lucid,” Bush said. “She and I were needling each other.”

Then George W. Bush told a story about how when the doctor came into the room, Barbara Bush asked him if he would like to know, “why George W. is the way he is?”

“The doctor looked somewhat surprised,” George W. Bush said. “She said, ‘because I drank and smoked when I was pregnant with him.”

The set erupted into laughter at George W. Bush’s story.

“Here’s the thing: she had great faith, she truly believes that there’s an afterlife. That she’ll be wonderfully received in the arms of the loving God, and therefore did not fear death,” George W. Bush said.
