Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) said that the allegations that a former aide in her Senate office made against a male staffer did not rise to the level of sexual harassment during an interview on Wednesday.

CNN’s Alisyn Camerota asked Gillibrand whether should would have done anything differently in the case, which involved a young, female staffer who said she was sexually harassed and resigned because she didn’t feel heard.

“So, she was definitely heard and believed. We believed all her allegations. We investigated it thoroughly and immediately. And the allegations she actually made didn’t rise to the level of sexual harassment,” Gillibrand said.

Gillibrand then shifted of the topic of her Senate office’s sexual harassment scandal to discuss her #MeToo legislation.

If Gillibrand’s former staffer’s allegations didn’t rise to the level of sexual harassment, and everything was handled properly as she claims, then why was the accused staffer subsequently fired after Politico reported on the allegations?
