In an appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Thursday morning, Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani told the show’s hosts that the FBI may have had “two spies” embedded in the Trump campaign.

Citing a New York Times story, by Matt Apuzzo, Adam Goldman and Nicholas Fandos, on the investigation, Fox’s Brian Kilmeade read an excerpt describing the work of an informant:

At least one government informant met several times with Mr. Page and Mr. Papadopoulos, current and former officials said. That has become a politically contentious point, with Mr. Trump’s allies questioning whether the F.B.I. was spying on the Trump campaign or trying to entrap campaign officials.

Giuliani said that the revelation in the Times may undermine the “legitimacy of the entire investigation.”

“Maybe a special counsel never should have been appointed,” he told the hosts.

“I’m shocked to hear that they put a spy in the campaign of a major party candidate or maybe two spies,” the former New York mayor speculated.

Giuliani said that he is “trying to figure out who is the spy.”

The lawyer claimed that if the spy found any evidence, the Mueller investigation would have brought forth collusion-related charges. The lack of such indictments indicates that the alleged spy found nothing, Giuliani said.
