GOP Ad in PA Special Election Ties Conor Lamb to Nancy Pelosi

"Conor Lamb — a Pelosi-following, high-taxing, big-spending liberal. We deserve better," the ad's narrator says.

Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), a GOP super PAC, released a new ad Wednesday tying Democrat Conor Lamb to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. The ad is airing weeks before a special election for Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional District.

Lamb, 33, has “sought to distance himself from Pelosi,” according to The Hill. That’s for good reason: tying Democrats to Pelosi proved particularly effective in special elections in 2017.

In the new ad, CLF points to Lamb’s opposition to the GOP tax reform plan as proof that he’ll “join Pelosi’s liberal flock.” It goes on to use Pelosi’s recent comments labeling individual savings created by the plan as nothing but “crumbs,” while boosting Republican state Rep. Rick Saccone.

“Conor Lamb — a Pelosi-following, high-taxing, big-spending liberal. We deserve better,” the ad’s narrator says as a video of a herd of sheep plays to land the metaphor.

NRCC Chairman Steve Stivers (R-OH) explained the Pelosi-centric strategy, telling NTK, “Nancy Pelosi is the most unpopular political figure in every competitive district in the country.”

In the latter half of the ad, its focus pivots to the Republican in the race, state Rep. Rick Saccone, a veteran who supported the GOP tax cuts.

CLF said the ad is part of a $1.5 million buy in the district.

Critics have blasted Lamb in the past for hypocritical statements regarding lobbyists (his father is one) and so-called “dark money” (he put up B-roll for dark money groups to use in ads on his behalf).
